Microphone Recommendation for DLSR

Hey Guys,

Kinda new to the whole audio thing so excuse me if i get anything wrong...

Basically I am after a microphone that I can plugin straight into my DLSR which can be used for handheld interviews. The DSLR has a 3.5mm jack input.

I did buy the AKG D5 and tried and XLR to jack method which didn't work, and later found out that it is due to the mic needing a mic level input and the camera is a line level input.

So what would be the best option for a microphone that i plugin and go, I will be selling the D5 as i dont want to have to fiddle with a pre amp to get the right levels.

Anyone recommend a microphone.? Also what should i be looking for to confirm a mic is line level.?
