I use a drum VSTi where each drum has it's own out >> its own Cubase track (in addition to each drum having an ambience "room mic", with all of them summed to one last "ambience" track in Cubase). Knowing there is no answer for all situations, I was wondering if generally people will give each drum the amount of attention they would for, say, a voice or electric guitar ... or if "drums" as a whole is the focus.
I suspect from listening to reference tracks that it's the former - people will spend as much attention on a snare, hat, etc. as they will on any another individual instrument, but I was just hoping to confirm if possible from the folks that do this for a living.
I must admit, it seems rather overwhelming to do that ... I have a very "sparse" arrangement, which I thought would be challenging enough to mix - actually, with less other instruments than total drum types!
Thanks for any advice and perspective -
