Normalling is not an option, you have to use lots of short XLR patch leads. That's how I work. It's no great hardship.

But use 12 - 18" leads, not 3" leads. One day you may want to patch top left to bottom right, or run it via an external preamp or compressor, or something.

If you are always patching 1 to 1, 2 to 2 etc, you don't need a patchbay: just hardwire it.
