I need help from the PC gurus on here
I am hoping someone can help with the following. I have just rebuilt my system.
OS and programmes on a 160GB 7200 rpm drive
Data on a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB 7200 rpm drive
Both SATA2, I have 4 SATA sockets on the Mobo, now I am unsure if it matters which sockets I use, I cannot find any info regarding the Mobo (which is IBM) if the sockets are on different buses etc….
Up until recently I only had the 160GB drive, which was partitioned into two, one part for the OS, and one part for data (backups to an external USB drive). This worked perfectly.
When I now run a DAW application with the music files (wavs etc..) etc… residing on the 1TB drive. The playback stutters, I changed the latency on my firewire sound card to 2048 and still had a problem. So for me this eliminated the sound card.
I then copied back the music files (wavs etc….) to the 160GB (OS and apps) an the problem went away.
So there appears to be some throughput problem with the 1TB drive
I am not sure where to go to next. Any advice appreciated.
I plan to pull out the 1TB drive and put it in a firewire caddy to see if it is the SATA sockets / buses causing the problem, but this will not be until tonight.
Everything is patched (chipset drivers) according to the latest from IBM/Lenovo the PC manufacturer
Thanks in advance for any responses
