@ All Pro Mastering engineers - How do you like your files

Ok this really is a grey area.

Many people mix down (in my dance music circles) totally in the box and the trend is to slap a mix buss compressor on there as well as mix buss EQ.
But I don't like this idea. I like to leave as much freedom as I can for the Mastering Engineer.

Also I like to mix with the master fader leaving around minus 3 decibels at the songs peak to allow some head room for you masterers to manoeuvre.


Which approach is correct for club/dance/house music?
