At this point it could still be a few small things - does the PC have a reset button? is the button stuck, maybe just take that off the motherboard - Do you have a front USB? is the connector broken? if one is the +5 volts can short to ground and stop the PC from coming on - have a look at the USB connectors at the back
Are there any bent pins on the mouse, keyboard and monitor plugs, look carefully in good light
On the motherboard are there any caps that have gone round at the top? Also what is the model of the board, you said at one point it was an Asus
