Yamaha EMP100 Multi Effects Processor

Bought one of these for £30 today (released in 1990!):

I want to add effects to the mic through the mixer, does the mic have to go through the Yamaha unit or can I connect the mic and the effects processor separately to the mixer and still apply the effects to the mic through the mixer (if that makes sense!)?
