Use a sequencer something simple to get you started. My personal advise would be get something like MixCraft because if you are new to DAWs then this will be a very simple introduction and it will do everything you need it to do.

MixCraft

This will give you access to drum patterns straight away and you will be able to control and open all the audio you have recorded from you hardware recorder (obviously you will need to import the audio into mixCraft). You can download it for free and trial it so no problem there, for like £40 it is a very quick to get started.
