I've been a fan of John Barry's arrangements for a long time and while watching Thunderball last night (big Bond fan as well;)), I wondered how he created the strident brass sound used in the title song, between Tom's vocal lines.
Is there a slight "wah" (harmon mute?) to the sound ?
Would a combination of trombone and trumpet have created this ?
Or even combined with french horns, as is the end ?
Octave strings doubling, as well ?
Anyone know what his working methods were ?

A master at work, no doubt !
