smoke from monitors

I never run my monitors at excessive volumes and they aren't left on for extended periods of time but switched them on today and one started crackling then smoke started coming out of it. They are active Behringer Truth monitors and I have no idea what has happened - any ideas what could cause this and how much it's likely to cost to repair?
