Surely the "Pro" machine is the full-size desktop model, which should indeed support every possible expansion and connectivity option. A laptop computer, or the various "designer" Macs, have other priorities.
Even a macbook air has ALL the connections, if connecting to a thunderbolt hub. A difference in performance, as far as I can see, would solely rely on the speed of the CPU, and (for some time) bus speed. I might be wrong, though.
