Hey All,

Just published my latest blog entry on Sound Related.

http://soundrelated.com/the-tharu-pumpkin-man/

This is a recording I made on my last day in Sauraha, Nepal. It features one of the local Tharu villagers singing and playing an odd stringed instrument made from a pumpkin! Very cool.

Enjoy!

There's a similar African instrument called an ngoni, with more strings to allow harp-like phrases to be played on the bigger ones, or on smaller ones you can finger notes like an unfretted banjo. The kora is the bigger instrument taken to its logical harp-like conclusion.
