RCF Ayra Monitors

Postby fatbenelton » Wed Nov 28, 2012 7:44 pm

Paul White thought the ayra 5 were ok in his July review and even praised the 'wonderfully smooth mid-range' whilst remarking that the bass wasn't great being 'smeared'.....

I've noticed that the ayra 6 and 8 can be had for c£320 and £399 a par which is pretty decentif it can offer the same 'wonderful mid-range' with vastly improved bass response.......

I currently have a pair of Fostex PM0.4 and Paul compared the Ayra 5 to this range - I would quite like to upgrade but as usual don't have a whole heap of cash and thus the Ayra 6 at £320 look interesting. Has anybody tried the 6 or 8 who can comment as there is very little on the web (although what I have found is positive)?

The Mytho monitors are pretty good. Very good in fact. The Ayro? I don't know why SOS gave them such a thumbs up as I found them harsh and uninformative - even for the moderate price. Not really "monitors" at all. In that price range Focals any day.

Not a fair comparison though - a pair of CMS40 will cost over £500 a pair whilst the ayra 5 are under £300 a pair with the ayra 8 coming in at £400 a pair.....

But I do take your point.....for example Adam A3X is the same price (£400) as the Ayra 8............4.5" vs 8" but the smaller speaker is much better quality..........
