level issue about recording from walkman into a macbook

Postby Preachers » Wed Jan 16, 2013 11:24 am

i know this may not a professional question, but when i'm trying to record something using my macbook's line-in port, there's a wired thing.

i use Reaper as my DAW, when recording from a walkman, the signal clip at -10dbFS, if i use another sound source other than walkman, the signal can reach as high as -1.5dbFS without clip.

in spite of other aspects, why this different occur???

ps: when macbook's input level set to 0db in "audio setup" it cannot over -10dbfs without clipping, if i set the input level to 10.50db, it can reach -0.5dbFS without clip, but it dosen't matter.
