Postby stcinematography » Mon Jun 17, 2013 12:41 am

Hi All, I filmed a wedding on the weekend with new unfamiliar equipment (shure fp wireless) The gain on the camera was very low and the recording doesn't sound very good at all. I have adobe Audition could anyone recommend tools and settings to fix enhance the below link (300kb's) sample.

The mp3 file you provided seems to have been recorded at 22 khz sample rate but that's not the real issue. It's badly distorted. Probably the wireless mic receiver was sending too hot a signal to the camera's mic input and it overloaded the first stage.
If you are having to lower the camera's mic gain to almost zero, to get an acceptable level, it's a warning sign. The ideal gain setting is usually about half to three quarters of the way up.

Not a lot can be done about the distortion. You could try a declipping plugin but unfortunately the old maxim "garbage in, garbage out" tends to apply here.

All the best,
Tim
