TLA 2051 + Focusrite 18i6 help!

Postby sx2000 » Fri Jul 26, 2013 11:22 pm

Hello all,

looking for a quick piece of advice if I may...

I've been running my Scarlett 18i6 through my rain laptop no probs for a while now.

I've just purchased a TLA Audio Indigo 2051 from ebay and have got problems....

Primarily, when the 2 are connected, there's a lot of noise/interference coming from the TLA unit. It doesn't seem to be coming from the audio path within the unit though as none of the controls inc gain have any effect on it.

The unit arrived in fairly suspect condition, packaged well but bent rack ear, missing screw, music and video exchange electrical safety test sticker on the top...

It feels like it needs to go back, however there's one bit that's confusing me. It noise occurs when plugged in to all channels on the Scarlett, with the exception of going unbalanced into 7 or 8.

So just before I start the usual ebay returns rigmarole, I wondered if anyone has any kind of explanation for this? Would like to confirm that there's a fault with the unit and that it's not a freak combination of circumstances making the Scarlett buzz.

Any advice please!

Have you run audio through the TLA into all channels on the focusrite or are you just listening to the inputs...? You may have a mute on 7-8 somewhere hard to find, but I would have thought if audio reaches 7-8 but not the buzz then blame starts to move towards the focusrite.

well... I've just had another quick look, and it's the complete opposite today. All channels silent except 7 and 8. To accompany that, cubase has stopped recognising any input and I got blue screen of death several times when investigating the buses in cubase. Baby woke up so had to stop, but will have another look this eve. Annoying!

I'm now certain that this is an electrical fault with the TLA. Cubase + Focusrite tested fine this morning, plugged TLA a into Focusrite, all fine. Plugged mic into TLA, shorted the Focusrite (same behaviour as it did in the last post), which kills the driver, confuses that hell out of Cubase, and leaves me with a crashed laptop. It won't be being plugged in again!
