books about recording

Postby darrylportelli » Tue Jun 17, 2014 10:50 pm

Hi, next monday I finish my last exam for this year and summer recess starts. I would like to know if there are some books about recording that maybe are considered as 'bibles' on the subject, that explain A-Z of equipment, techniques ecc. so that I may read one of them during summer.

Thanks !!!

Yamaha's Sound Reinforcement Handbook is a must own, though it's not specifically about recording.

If you systematically read the past articles in SOS which are available online you'd have consumed the best resource available!

Acoustics and the Performance of Music by Jürgen Meyer is an excellent book.

I bought the first edition and then bought it again when the 5th edition came out in English.

This is the book that has the polar radiation diagrams of musical instruments, which is so useful to know when recording.

Bob Katz's Mastering Audio is excellent from a technical point of view. For practical stuff, Mike Senior's Mixing Secrets is great.

Cheers!

Oh yeah, and that one! I've gone through it a few times now, it's not the easiest read but there's a serious amount of knowledge in there.

Cheers,

Yup - it's actually worth the price just for the instrument polar-pattern diagrams.

And on special offer at Amazon at the moment.
