some CDs import to iTunes way faster than others? I'm talking legit purchases here.

Can't say I've noticed any difference...

Shorter album lengths

On a serious note, could it be that songs with more going on take longer to compute?

Maybe repetative genres or songs with fewer quieter passages are easier and thus faster to process. Maybe complete b@ll4x, but just a theory.

Assuming your import settings haven't changed, have you activated the option "Use error correction when reading audio CDs"? If so, and errors (scratches/marks) are found, it'll slow down the import.

Not entirely connected...

Why is stuff available on iTunes USA and not iTunes UK...

Sometimes quite surprising stuff.

Today in my 'slowly-rip-everything-to-iTunes' background task (Year 3, album 80 - I did say I was slow!) I popped Pink Floyd's 'Division Bell' in to the slot.

It picked up the track listing from gracenotes, but no artwork. I looked for the album on iTunes and it's not there ... WTF? pretty much all the rest of their back catalogue is, but not that.

And yet some further searching revealed it to be available on iTunes USA.

Seems like a strange omission

it probably has to do with publication and/or distribution rights to the material.
