Passion Pit's The Reeling drum break

Postby tuc39432 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 8:24 am

Does anyone know how Passion Pit did the drum break towards the beginning of the song? It sounds pretty chopped up and filtered, but if anyone has any ideas i'd like to hear them because this is something ive wanted to learn how to do for a while.
Thanks

Sounds like a live drum beat that's been chopped up 'a la recycle'.

You then lay the chopped parts out across the keyboard and program away. The last bit before the main song comes in is just those samples being played in a run down the keyboard so the pitch gets lower and lower.

Agreed it sounds like the hits are taken from a loop and played back in a (soft) sampler. But I think that it would be more likely to be pitch bend on the down bit at the end as not just one sample is transposed downwards.
