Need a tiny footprint MIDI keyboard 'WITH' aftertouch for a change

Postby Kolakube » Mon Nov 26, 2012 6:32 pm

Hi guys,

Anyone know of a small footprint keyboard from any era that is/has

velocity sensitive,
aftertouch,
Pitch bend
Modulation wheel
MIDI out (obviously)(or USB I suppose)
Spans 4 octaves minimum.
Doesnt take up excessive amounts of space for drum pads or sliders ect I will never use.

To give an idea the MicroKey 61 by korg http://www.korg.co.uk/products/software_controllers/microkey/sc_microkey.php

...is pritty perfect, exept no aftertouch. (Why???? )

As said, im not bothered if its something from the 80s or the latest stuff like the Microkey as long as it ticks all the above.

Many thanks for anyhelp. Im not being lazy here. Im looking and looking but some people know this end of the market very well and can just say 'XXXXX will do ya fine'

Cheers

The Korg Kontrol 49 hits all of those, except it has drum pads and sliders. Perhaps they "don't take up excessive amounts of space."

Thanks fella, but thats far too big for the space I haven't got.

It looks about the size of my Akai MPK49 that was superb in all respects its just I didn't ever use any of the sliders and drum pads associated with it and like most things manufactured today 75% of its functions were useless to me. Of course I bought it originally as I fell for all the marketing crap and fully believed I would. As a keyboard it was great, just too big for my tiny desktop space it has to share with a load of other stuff.

I think ill just have to forego aftertouch and go with an MicroKey 61.

Thanks but it doesn't span 4 octives.

It seems there is no keyboard that fits what I want. So I decided to drop aftertouch, (what my nord lead 3 hates me for) and go with the MicroKey 61. Shame Korg didnt make a 61X with aftertouch. Would be perfect for my needs.

This may be a stupid idea but could two small keyboards be configured to span the octaves ?

I use a little Novation synth for that role in my setup. You can it as a MIDI controller and it has all the stuff you listed and takes up very little space. You also get some cool Novation synth sounds too.

Novation has a bunch of great inexpensive synths. I think the Novation Impulse 49 might have what you listed. But check out all of their stuff. It has aftertouch too.

Hi Kolakube,

Did you go for the Microkey61 in the end? If so, what did you think? I'm also looking for a very small controller - although I'm not that bothered about aftertouch, so the Microkey would seem to be perfect for me.
