S950 Original Sounds

Is it possible to get original sound libraries for the S950 or S1000?

It came with a set of 4 discs, but at the time there must of been plenty of commercially availble soundsets. Ocassionaly on ebay sets of discs appear, but they could contain anything, maybe made by the user from romplers!

The only reason for asking is that a lot of the older EMU and Ensoniq samplers had some classic soundsets, and I cant help thinking there must have been some nice synth based sets of discs for the Akai samplers. I didnt bother at the time since I used it for ... well sampling...but I am intrigued to know if it could have a knew lease of life as a playback module for some nice period pianos and suchlike...

I saw recently some sampled sets online for the s1000 (I was looking at the J. J Jeczalik sample disc which had s1000 programs) as I was looking for samples for my s6000, but can't remember the exact site. however I believe there are still many places that sell sample libraries for the s1000
EDIT: It was here http://www.samples4.com/ haven't got round to getting it though

If I remember corectly the original sample libraries contained rather lame sets of sounds - you know, a cheap sounding piano, some basses, a few random synth sounds, string brass sounds - to be honest, probably not worth bothering with.

The original sample libraries of the Fairlight Series I/II and Emulator are much more interesting imo, if you want sounds with character. Even the Roland S-Series libraries are better sounding and more usable. In short, those Akai's are probably not characterful enough to enjoy, and not good enough quality to use well - they fall in the rather bland and forgettable middle, really.

I do remember a while back Akai put a massive library of samples on their FTP site which contained a random grab bag of stuff.

If you are just talking about third-party stuff, there were a *ton* of S1000-format libraries out there... you can probably still buy many of them from the usual sample producer/companies.... Ilio still sell Akai format CD-ROM's, for instance...

I think you might be right Desmond. In fact it was playing with the fairlight and emulator sounds that got me thinking this - why did I not buy S950 disks?
Then I remember at the time thinking what was on offer seamed quite bland, and stuck to Zero G disks and stuff! Just wondering if I might have been wrong.
