Good place for mics and audio equipment in London?

Postby CS70 » Fri Mar 22, 2013 11:56 pm

Hope this is not totally off topic.. I'm in central London for a few days and I wonder if somone familiar with the place can share some wisdom on good places to go for audio gear - I'm particualrly looking for a guitar-dedicated mic like the sennheiser e609 or similar.. "good" as in prices, selection etc

Thanks!

Yes, KMR. Not especially central though.

Just be aware that Funky don't always keep a lot of stock...depends. I think with ANY of these places it's well worth calling in advance if there are particular things you're interested in. Sometimes the demo units are out with clients, or for review etc.

Another one is richmondfilmservices.co.uk
(not central either)
P.S. did you mean sennheiser e906? I don't think RFS does that one, you would have to go for MD421 or shure SM57

Thanks everyone. Here to mid next week, but probably sticking around the center - if I manage to find thetime between mdm. Tussaud's and the kids heading for the aquarium I'll call and check. And yeah, I was thinking of checking something sounding a bit different than a SM57. Worst case, it'll be a customary visit to Denmark street for guitar stuff.

Much appreciated, this is a great and friendly forum. And if you have more tips, fire away

KMR Audio are great and have a good stock of demo. mics and monitors.

Funky-Junk are also good - they are a different company from KMR and not the same (as indicated above).

Both these are located in North London - KMR is round the corner from "Totteridge & Whetstone" tube station on the Northern Line (5 minute walk from the station), Funky-Junk are near Finsbury Park tube station on the Piccadilly and Victoria lines.

Ahh - I didn't understand it as that as your post came straight after several saying KMR.

I think Funky-Junk have always been Funky-Junk, but also having the ProAudioEurope name will mean they will get more "hits" in web searches.

They *do* also have the domain name www.funky-junk.co.uk but it immediately re-directs t the ProAudioEurope site.
