These days most things are digital..

Whatever the sound parameters, there's LOTS of resonance.

The tune is on an SD card, so, yes. This has the advantage that you can replace the chimes with Justin Bieber if you wish.

Well he's always used spanish guitar, harmonicas, and plenty of brass percussions. I don't think this one is all that different.

For the chimes, a music box I guess; a clockwork mechanism with metal strips getting pinged by a spiked rotating drum.

Looks like there are watches with this mechanism, though I think the website for the watch copy said they wouldn't be able to store such a long melody as the one in the film.

I always thought it was a music box but the way it is played doesn't sound that mechanical.

Yeah, maybe; or perhaps just a glockenspiel. I like the celeste idea though.

Sounds very much like a celeste to me. You can hear the little wooden 'thunks' of the key mechanisms...
