Studiolive tracks at mixdown

Postby OneWorld » Sat Nov 02, 2013 5:14 pm

I am thinking of retiring my Tascam DM24 (the dreaded lines on the LCD have started to appear) and am thinking of getting the Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2.

Even though my Tascam only has 16 faders, I can mixdown 32 tracks 16 analogue + 16ADAT (well 24ADAT actually as I have 2 ADAT cards)

The StudioLive as well only has 16 faders, but it also has 16x16 firewire as well as the 16 analogue Mic/Line In. But as far as I can see, I can only get 16 channels at mixdown, or am I missing something? is it possible that like my DM24, there are 2 'layers' of 16?

Yes only 16 channels, so the x32 would probably be a better option in this case plus it has 32x32 USB and up to 38 channels (32 mic/line and 6 auxes) and Mackie control emulation. Haven't used it personally but all the talk so far has been 99% positive.

Thanks, yes had been looking at the X32 or the cheaper compact version which still seems to offer the same track count. I'd like to go all InTheBox with a control surface but I use hardware synths

Yes, you could have 16 + 6 local inputs on the desk (without an s16) and still have 16 inputs from the usb interface.
The only difference between the models is amount of local inputs the actual amount of processing is the same.
You will also be able to have 32x32 ADAT/MADI/DANTE when the new expansion cards come out.
