Recommend an app for squishing video?

Postby jellyjim » Mon Aug 15, 2011 9:10 am

Hello chaps

I was filming some music performances on my Olympus PEN EP-1 and I thought it'd be a good idea to take advantage of it's widescreen HD mode only it wasn't as I now have a pile of massive 2Gb files clogging up my pokey hard drive!

Can anybody recommend an app (OSX Lion) that I can use to squish them down a bit? I mean resolution as much as compression. They're 1280 x 720 (or thereabouts). It's ultimately for web delivery so they could easily be half of that.

Thanks
Jim

Also, there's MPEG Streamclip.

A few years ago I had some problems using Handbrake. I had just bought my first Mac and was using it for DVD ripping. I was working on a short film edited at a Soho post house and the DVD they sent me had timecode breaks which Handbrake did not detect so it just dropped the frames affected, which later caused sync issues. MPEG Streamclip detects the breaks and fixes them. It's entirely possible that Handbrake fixed those issues since and also these issues may not affect what you're doing. But just on the off chance...

Incidentally, that situation was when I learned why BITC is so important!
