SPDIF Hardware I/O in Logic with Focusrite Saffire Pro 10

I have a Lexicon MX200 reverb connected to my mixer, but it's been little-used since recent projects have meant mainly mixing "in the box". As it, and my interface (Focusrite Saffire Pro 10) both have digital SPDIF I/O I bought a couple of leads to connect it up and try and use it as a bus effect in Logic (Logic Express 9).

I have the Saffire output going into the Lexicon input and the Lexicon output going back in to the Saffire input - all SPDIF. There seems to be all sorts of convoluted ways of getting digital sends/returns into Logic, but what I've done is this:

- On one of my audio tracks, create a new send, say Bus 5, which creates an "Aux 5" track
- In Aux 5 I have a Utility->I/O->Stereo plugin, with the Output set to 9-10 (SPDIF) and the Input set to 9-10 (SPDIF)
- Bus 5 input is set to "Send 5" and its output is the main stereo out (outputs 1-2 of the Saffire)

I thought this would let me send any of the tracks to the Lexicon by adjusting the level of the Bus 5 send. What seems to be happening is that all audio is sent into the Lexicon regardless of what Bus 5 Sends are set (even iTunes now comes out reverbed).

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

Are you saying that you play iTunes and you see audio levels happening in Logic? Is your system audio also set to output to your audio interface?

What's most likely happening is you've got some funky routing going on in the control panel on your audio interface - check the routing there first.

System audio is set to the interface (when it's powered up, otherwise internal speakers) - this comes out on outputs 1-2 which are physically routed out to a hardware mixer & powered monitors. What happens now is that everything that normally comes out of analog outputs 1-2 (main Logic mix but also system audio such as iTunes) are sent to the Lexicon and are "reverbed".

I thought it might be something to do with the interface's control panel, which I've always found to be rather unclear... can't see anything obviously wrong there though.
