Anyone using WINE ok on Mac OS X?

Postby Pitchfork » Thu Nov 15, 2012 9:32 pm

I am using Parallels for Acid Pro and Sound Forge for editing (the Mac version is poor)..

Parallels is ok, but it does drain the CPU and isn't that snappy at times as its a guest OS running XP.

Is WINE easier to use? simple to install? small footprint?

Does WINE run programs (I only need the two above) on Windows XP (actually do you need to install Windows XP?) just like a Mac, and not like Parallels whereby it boots a whole new OS?

I don't run wine, but know someone (a super-technical chap) who does. I kinda doubt it's easier to use than parallels.

FWIW note that Sound Forge is now available native for OSX.

I dabbled in Wine to use the freeware Gimp, as I didn't want to shell out the money for Photoshop, for the little use I had. As I remember, it was a bit tricky to set up in the beginning, but once that was done I was able to open apps through Wine without the need for Windows or other OS. It was stable for me. In fact I think I still have it on my HD, just don't use it much anymore.

i used this in school and it worked well - i believe it is "wine" based

don't know if it's completely compatible, but there is a 'no holds barred' demo - around 30days i think....you might as well try it!
