I thought MBP's had 1 Firewire 800 port? If you're using it for something else, you may be able to daisy chain. Alternatively use the Thunderbolt port with a TB to Firewire adapter.

If it's a retina it'll only have Thunderbolt. You'll need an adapter from apple, available from website or stores.

800 to 400 firewire cable like this should work fine if you've got a spare 800 port

What model of MBP do you have, what ports does it have, and what port does the audio interface have ?

thanks guys, i think i panicked a bit yesterday as neither of the 2 leads that came with the 610 fitted.
i have now checked my mac and found i indeed have a firewall 800 and a thunderbolt port.
are they both as good as each other? and what is the port on the 610?
thanks again, soon i'll be able to get on with making music and not setting up me studio!!!

The profire 610's port is frewire 400.
I don't believe you will get any speed benefit by using the thunderbolt port as the profire's 400 port will slow everything down to 400 speed.
I haven't any experience of thunderbolt or using an adaptor to 400 firewire.
Our live rig runs a macbook pro with a profire 610 using the adaptor I posted earlier and we have never had any problems.
It is important to go to maudio's website and download the newest appropriate driver for your operating system.
And they will always ask you to deinstall a previous driver before installing the newer one.
I guess if the thunderbolt adaptor works and isn't too expensive then the question would be are you already using one of the ports for an external drive or other peripheral. You could daisy chain but I imagine using both ports for different devices would have them working in parallel and you could possibly gain a performance increase.
