Putting spare hard drive from PPC into Mac Pro

Postby Apparition » Mon Apr 22, 2013 10:48 pm

Hi guys,
I have backed up all the data on a 2nd hard drive in my old PPC to an external drive and emptied it and would now like to move it into my Mac Pro. Is there anything I need to do other than the physical swap? The PPC is on 10.4.11 and the Mac Pro is now on 10.7.5. I assume that because I can plug my external drive into either machine then the same principle would apply with the internal one but would just like to make certain before doing so.

Cheers, Chris

Provided you never want to use it as a boot drive, you simply put it in the caddy and off you go.
If you ever want to boot from it, you will need to change the partition map to GUID,
( & install 10.5.8 as a minimum system for early Intel machines. Later machines will require a higher OS ).

Thanks Scope,
was going to do it last night but at the last moment had a little nagging voice in my head saying "there are no stupid questions, just stupid people!"

Thanks again, Chris

Assuming you mean a PPC G5, then fine.

If you mean anything earlier e.g PPC G4, then the disk will be IDE and won't work.

Yes, G5 PPC, should have stated that.
