Activating Focusrite Midnight Plugins

Postby BigAl » Tue Feb 18, 2014 11:02 am

I'm having a hell of a time activating my Focusrite Midnight plugins.
When I got the Forte, I went through all the correct processes to register and activate. one day, out of the blue, they deactivated (back into demo mode). The first time I noticed it was when I took my gear to my mate's house.
I then re-activated, which is a pain.
At the weekend, it did it all again, in my house this time. I re-activated, then opened another project and it was back in demo mode.
Anyone else experienced this?

No, but they were a little temperamental when I first installed them. Haven't had a problem with de-authorising yet though. Give the chaps at Focusrite a ring, they're very helpful and friendly.

Hugh,
There are a couple of potential "fixes" on their website. I'll try them first before calling them.
Thanks.

Haven't the midnight plug ins been superseded by the Scarlett suite?

I know I was using a suite I got with the Pro 14 only to have that suite deleted (along with all my presets) and replaced by a newer suite...

No, the Scarlett and Saffire suite are just the freebies that come with your interface. The Midnight is a different kettle of fish altogether, sold as a standalone and modelled from their top end hardware units.

Hi BigAl,

Are you using a Mac?

We were experiencing a bug on some Mac systems where the Midnight Suite would lose its license. This has been fixed in the latest version we released in January:

http://uk.focusrite.com/downloads?product=Midnight+Plug-in+Suite

If you do have any further issues please feel free to give us a shout.

Best regards,

Hugh,

I applied a couple of "fixes" suggested by Focusrite and they appeared fine. I then loaded up a jam I recorded a few weeks ago, selected one of the virtual instrument tracks, and without hitting PLAY, started mucking around with the Hammond Organ, which had one of the Midnight plug-ins on the channel.
The volume started going down & up etc... (symptoms for un-authorised plugin). When clicking on the plug-in on the track, it was in demo mode.
There is clearly an issue, and until Focusrite fix it, I may stop using them, which is a shame.

Neil,

Just saw your post, so I'll download the latest version and let you know how I get on.

What was the issue?

I use a MacBook Pro 13", dual core, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, Mavericks.

Neil,

I downloaded the new 1.5 plugins and opened a few projects. So far so good.

Hugh,

It was obvious that there was a bug somewhere and it's good to see Focusrite resolving it.

Cheers. But don't get me started on my Focusrite VRM box! Still can't get it to work with my 18i20. Every time I plug it in it takes over as the main interface so despite having spent over an hour on the phone with Focusrite folk doing their best, basically I can't use it! Great piece of kit if it worked!
