Mac Pro SSD Failed

Postby Lizardpoint » Fri Apr 18, 2014 10:52 pm

Hi Team,

My OCZ SSD I fitted to my Mac Pro refused to boot tonight when I turned the unit on.
To localise the fault I removed the OCZ Agility 3 drive and replaced it with an older model A Vertex 2.
The Mac Pro booted fine.
I'm pretty sure that proves the Agility 3 to be faulty.
The drive is barely 10 months old and Its seen very little action during its brief life due to pressure of work.
I'd been loading and tweaking my software until I got it just how I wanted it then a few projects came along, then a few more and like a complete Rissole, I never got around to backing it up.
I know its my fault but 10 months…
I'll be replacing it. But not with another OCZ.
Any recommendations for reliable fast SSD's.

The dumbest guy in the Mac forum.

They don't have the best reputation.

Try for a refund, or replacement

Purely anecdotal, but I've been using a 500GB Crucial SSD (which I believe is made by Micron) as my main system drive for a couple of years with no problem. It's done that duty in 2 MBPs so far i.e. I swapped it out, erased it and put it in my newer machine.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with your SSD.
I've not tried it yet, but i've just ordered one of these...
Samsung 1TB SSD .
There's a £50 cash back promotion on them until May 3rd which brings it under £300 for a 1TB SSD.
Horrendously expensive compared to a standard HD, but a great deal for an SSD of that capacity and must be worth your consideration if the budget stretches.
I must admit it bloody killed me to spend that amount on something as mundane as a HD! lol
Hope you get sorted soon.

Good luck

I spent £275 on a 500GB SSD back in November last year, hope that makes you feel a bit better Also, SSDs are awesome, my computer is ridiculously snappy now.
