Reliable cheap 800mhz DDR2 RAM?

Postby dickiefunk » Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:15 pm

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade the RAM in my pc and am looking for something cheap but reliable. I currently have 4gb of Winchip RAM in my PC but I can't find any more for sale?
I've been advised not to mix different brands of RAM??

I'm looking to put at least 8gb of RAM into my pc because I mainly use vst's and work entirely within Cubase 6.

I have a Gigabyte GA-EQ45M-S2 mobo which supports up to 16gb 800mhz DDR2 RAM.

My cpu is an Intel Q9550 quad 2.83 ghz

http://ark.intel.com/products/33924/Intel-Core2-Quad-Processor-Q9550-(12M-Cache-2_83-GHz-1333-MHz-FSB)

What would be the most reliable and cost effective RAM upgrade?

Thanks

You want to add 8GB or you want 8GB total?

Ideally you want matched sizes and speeds. The same brand wouldn't go amiss either but as it's winchip I doubt you'll find those with any ease. They do ODM for other firms and do crop up in some strange places but you'll rarely seem them advertised. I recall Geil use them sometimes and Corsair also do on some ranges of their memory.

Grab Speccy ( http://www.piriform.com/download ) and see what the finer details of the memory are and we'll go from there.
