Mixing/Mastering

Postby CostaSaint » Tue Nov 27, 2012 10:43 am

So I've got to mix and master some songs (drums, guitars, bass and vocals) and have never done it before.
Can anyone recommend any good YouTube videos that might help? I've seen that there are loads on there but I'm not sure which ones are by people who know what they are doing.
Thanks

I would recommend these videos.

Mixing and mastering are both huge subjects, and I don't think you'd find one video that will cover everything. Learning how to mix and master takes a long time and a lot of practise to get good results. Some people pick it up quicker than others.

If this is just for fun then good for you, but don't expect to get good results straight away.

If you need professional results from the mix/master then hire a professional mix/mastering engineer to do it for you. If you do take this route then attend the session, because you can learn a lot just by watching a pro. You will learn a lot more by doing this than watching a video.

If you've never done it before then I assume its for a hobby? Well - then just dive in and see what happens. I'm sure it'll sound dreadful BUT then at least you'll know what you're up against. Watching a blanket set of videos about "mixing" would be a waste of time without some idea of where you want to go.
