Plugin SR and BD support

Postby Hexo » Sun Jan 20, 2013 8:43 pm

Hello every body.

I can't find any info about sample rates and bit depth of software synthesizers out there so I think there might be a certain story. My VSTis act normal exporting them with any SR and BD say 192Khz, 24bit but I can't figure out what it means. Does this mean they support any SR and BD and so higher ones like 384Khz, 32 or 64 bit at all and there is no "support" thing? Or do they convert their standard SR and BD to the target ones?

Regards.

There are a million keys to perfection and they are buried in different graves.

At least let me know if it's a dumb question or hard to answer?

With regard to bit depth, that is dealt with by the host. VST plug-ins process in floating point (either 32 bit or 64 bit) from which 16 bit or 24 bit integers can be derived trivially.

The sample rate would affect oscillators and filters and anything else frequency dependant. If the plug-in is well written then it should cope with whatever sample rate is set.

Sorry hexagon - saw the thread title and assumed you'd be asked about SnaRe and BassDrum sounds
