Does anyone make rack tuners anymore?

Postby jaminem » Tue Dec 27, 2011 7:59 am

Hey chums.

Have been fancying a rack tuner for the studio, but aside from behringer which I will not be buying are there any other options?
Korg don't seem to make them anymore? Is eBay my only option now?

Peterson make rack kits to fit their autostrobe units.

Yes, it seems to be the Peterson at £280 or the Behringer at £52. The Korg DTR2000 doesn't seem to be offered anywhere.

If you feel Behringer doesn't fit your studio's image, perhaps you could make a new face-plate :-) It probably works just fine.

You don't have to write songs. The world doesn't want you to write songs. It would probably prefer it if you didn't. So write songs if you want to. Otherwise, dont. Go fishing instead.

hhhmmm bit of a judgmental comment there.

Read the reviews, its slow, doesn't track well needs massive amounts of level to do anything. Oh and it won't recognise a low B on a 5 string bass. Which for me being bass player who has a 5 string bass, is a bit of an issue.

Nothing to do with image, if it did what I wanted I would happily buy.
But it don't.

Why does it have to be a Rack Tuner? Am I missing something? I play bass and this bad boy does the job awesomely!

I prolly shouldn't say this (but it is the silly season).
I didn't know you could tune racks. What's the best key for them?

Because that's what I want.

It's really useful to have tuner that you can patch from the console but that the talent can see from the other side of the studio...
Little pocket tuners get lost. Borrowed, stood on sat on etc...

That what happened to my last 2...

I was going to say Sabine RT7000 or 7100 but they seem to have become extinct as well.

Direct correlation between racks being less popular, and pedalboards taking their space?

Anyway, how about a rack shelf or blank panel with a decent tuner cable tied to it? Cable tie a tuner to a blank panel gives the same facility, if a little MacGyver look (never a bad thing in my opinion!).

Rocktron Versatune announced at NAMM. Seems it'll list at$299 which seems a bit steep to me ... but if the Behringer isn't to your liking any new alternatives are likely going to be more.

For the kind of money mentioned here, you may recall that the Line 6 PODs have tuners in them, and some nice gear emulation thrown in ! The rack is sodding expensive, but at least it's not just a tuner ...

or a copy of Guitar Rig: it has a on-screen tuner that would probably be handy in a studio. Maybe.

Buy an iPad 1 off evilbay, install TC's polytune app and fix it to a wall. I reckon that would be the most easily legible tuner from a distance! You could probably use it as a remote control surface too!

Ha! Who am I kidding? I have iPad lust and no real reason to need one! :)))
