Hi there chaps.

Having a dobro built by a rather excellent guitar maker. Some pikkies here if anyone's interested (he's been on it a year and it will soon be finished):

Dobro Build

Spec is:

Soundboard / Back & Sides: Quilted Maple

Neck: 3-piece Quilted Maple with Snakewood centre stripe

Fingerboard: Snakewood, bound with snakewood with a contrasting white purf-line

Head Veneer & Bindings: Snakewood

Purfling: White/black Herringbone top and back

Others: Quarterman Cone, chrome hardware, snakewood machine head buttons, snakewood nut, snakewood heel cap and dark honey colour finish.

* * * * *

Will post more pikkies upon completion.

Cheers.

ARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, it's just that you ticked one of my boxes. I've been planning to build a Flying V National for a few years now and seeing your pics has just re-triggered all my plans along those lines.

However...

Now I've taken a deep breath and recovered...

Congratulations. I can't tell who the builder is, but you have picked someone who knows what he's doing. You have also got some great woods too. The work is TOP NOTCH with woods to match. So don't be afraid to tell us who is building it for you and providing links to their site.

Of course, that doesn't solve my problems. I still need a suitable workshop to build my Flying V and I will probably have to cast and machine the cones and spider/fittings myself as well as building the brass body and getting it chromed. So 'thanks' for pushing one of my long-term projects to the front of my mind again !!

Oh... the Snakewood fretboard is very special. A fine fretboard wood, but very rare now. I first saw it and considered it over 20 years ago and was lucky enough to build beside someone using it. STUNNINGLY beautiful wood and even rarer now than it was then. A great choice.

Stunning. Reminds me of the amazing work being done by our own Zen, which I had the privillege of seeing for myself some time ago.

Knows a good pasty shop too

I'd love to see whose work that is too, looks a great workspace.

Just been down to discuss the inlays. Now that is gonna be something rather wonderful.

Speaking of inlays, I originally wanted something like this:

Nice eh?

Purely my personal opinion but I think anything inlaid into that fretboard would be a crying shame. Maybe a little understated diamond back rattlesnake motif around one of the soundholes, but otherwise I think the woods you've chosen are truly stunning & make a statement on their own.

And of course there must be something wrong. In wanting to silence any song.
