I've got an Eggle-era Custom Fret-King Esprit V:

It was the first guitar I ever had made especially for me, and is fantastic in pretty much every way.

The current incarnation of Fret-King has lots of different models which are made in various locations to particular price-points. Is there anything in particular that you are interested in?

Being of modest tastes I was thinking of the C.S. Semitone De Luxe.Seems to do various styles and reviews aren't bad.

When the current FretKing series was launched, DanBo and I spoke to Trev Wilkinson and he was very proud of them. After years spent getting quality control sorted in his offshore factories, these were an attempt to make a make better guitar than the 'cheap and cheerful' Vintage brand - which are fine axes for the money, but a little more spent upgrading them makes them into good, workhorse guitars. The FretKing are already finished better, with better quality components and a few nice tweaks.

This does move them into a higher price bracket and that gives a lot of choice...

As with all guitars, there's no substitute for trying them out and checking that they match your needs. But if I were spending that much money I wouldn't rule them out.

(actually, I'd just order a new Gordon Smith ..doh!)

For me the whole point of Fret-King is their original designs like the Esprit or the Ventura.

I'm sure their other guitars are perfectly serviceable, but assorted Fender clones with slightly different pickup variations don't really interest me.
