Synth used in this track

Postby Anonymous » Wed Jul 20, 2011 1:58 am

Does anyone know which synth is used to create the opening Bass riff?

I thought it was the Korg MS20 but am not sure.

It has a similar sound that the Mutron used to give.
Mutron III but this sounds like a synth bass emulation.

I know the lead sound is the

Oberheim

Does the Oberheim also create the bass?

My telepathy's a little on the rusty side today (as is my Stratpathy) so it might help by actually telling us what track 'this track' is.

Unless 'This track' is the track title.

Very difficult to tell exactly from a recording due to many unknown processes.
However it is a very generic analog synth sound, a fairly quick bass sound with a fast decay, but importantly a little slowness in the attack for the filter so it opens up with the 'warrrpy' sound. The resonance is adjusted so that its enough to emphasise the 'wah' making it funky, but below self oscillation levels.

I managed to replicate it fairly easily using a sixtrak (analog VCO's), but the sound on the song to me sounded a little dirtier, so obviously an earlier synth, or maybe a little distorted. Certainly more Oberhiemy or ARP'y than Moogy, but the envelopes sound quite snappy so maybe an MS10...
Could be anything if just guessing but not a hard sound to replicate with any decent synth.

The album credits give Mark Davis (not a band member so I'm guessing a "synth guru" of the day) as playing an ARP synth - no particular model given though.....

Ok, given Narco's intel, I would put money on the Odessey. Slightly raspy filter sound, but quick envelopes...seams to fit?

That bass part certainly has some Odyssey characteristics, indeed. Would seem a good possibility.

Yep pretty sure it's Arp's Odyssey now.

Thanks for your guidance guys!
