wireless vocal mics / conversion kits...

Postby molecular » Thu Apr 20, 2017 6:51 pm

Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on wireless mics or conversion kits...

I'd go all out and buy a standard SM58 package but they are pricier than I'd like and this will not be used all that frequently, so I'm wondering about saving some cash by getting something like...

... but will spend a bit more to get something where the receiver is mains powered and the range is greater than 20m.

Thanks for any thoughts!

I'm sure I've seen wireless mics made from a standard mic with a little box on the end - a bit like that Alesis unit but more of a cube...

Yes - a quick search reveals that it was made by Sennheiser but Shure also do something similar.

Yeah they both look great.... but from Shure and Sennheiser, that's pretty much the same for just the transmitter as an entire new radio 58 setup with receiver!

And there's a reason for that, the mic capsule is a small part of the overall cost of the system so make little difference to the retail price.

Copy that.

So the main lesson really is that trying to save much cash by converting my existing mics is not really going to work. These units exist mostly to allow a choice of source signal for radio use, and if all I need is a roving mic for occasional run-of-the-mill PA and conference type duties then I should just plump for a complete radio 58 kit or imitation thereof?
