Audio-Technica unveil new mics at Messe

BP40 broadcast mic & AT2020USBi for iOS make debut

Prolight+Sound 2015 sees Audio-Technica reveal both its new BP40 large-diaphragm dynamic microphone and AT2020USBi USB condenser microphone, which now features iOS compatibility. Several other recently-introduced Audio-Technica products also receive their Prolight+Sound debut — the System 10 PRO rackmount wireless system, M70x closed-back monitor headphones, R70x open-back monitor headphones and the Dante-enabled ATND971 condenser boundary microphone and ATND8677 microphone desk stand.

BP40

Top of the list of new arrivals is the BP40, a dynamic vocal microphone for a variety of applications — including radio, overdubs, post-production and more. Described by its makers as having a “ rich, natural condenser-like sound”, the BP40’s hypercardioid polar pattern provides isolation of the desired sound source and maximum off-axis rejection when working in close production environments.

The BP40’s 37mm diaphragm features patented floating-edge construction that maximises diaphragm surface area and optimises overall diaphragm performance, while the humbucking voice coil prevents electromagnetic interference (EMI) (from video monitors, AC power etc). It also includes a switchable 100 Hz high-pass filter to provide even more protection from plosives.

AT2020USBi

Combining high-resolution audio with increased connectivity options, the AT2020USBi adds a new level of sound-quality and convenience to Audio-Technica’s USB microphone line. Modelled after the critically acclaimed AT2020, this digital output mic features an A/D converter with a 24-bit/96 kHz sampling rate to deliver high-resolution articulation and intelligibility that’s a good fit for home studio recording, field recording, podcasting and voiceover use.

The AT2020USBi works with both USB and Lightning cables (included), so users can employ it straight from the box to digitally capture audio on the device of their choice: PC, Mac or iOS. The integrated gain control adds to the convenience, allowing users to adjust the input level directly on the microphone.

System 10 PRO

Ideal for fixed-installations, touring set-ups, House-of-Worship and education applications, the 2.4GHz System 10 PRO’s rackmountable wireless chassis can house one or two receiver units, operable either within the chassis or removed, mounted remotely and connected via Ethernet cable.

The ground-breaking design offers real flexibility in terms of installation and use, without the expense of adding an antenna distributor and corresponding cables. Receivers can be placed up to 300 feet away — even in separate rooms — and up to five chassis can be linked with an RJ12 cable (included with each system) to build a stable multichannel system. Linking creates a system in which receiver units work together, with all receiving, transmitting and frequency allocation co-ordinated to prevent audio dropouts and enable simultaneous use of up to 10 channels.
