Elektron Digitakt now available

Eight-track drum machine & sampler out today

Elektron’s highly anticipated eight-track drum machine and sampler, Digitakt is out today and available for purchase. Its makers are calling it “fast, digital and utterly playable” with a powerful step sequencer, eight audio tracks, eight MIDI tracks, send FX as well as a multi-mode filter, overdrive and assignable LFO per track.

It also comes in at a much lower price than previous Elektron drum machines at a reasonable US$679/€769 — the Analog Rytm, while more complex and analogue commands a price tag of $1449/€1599.

One of the key features of Digitakt is the simplicity of sampling: just plug in a phone or another sound source and just start recording. The video below shows off some of the more excited features. It also comes pre-loaded with a library of percussion samples created by Nashville-based boutique drum sample company That Sound, among others. It looks pretty straightforward to bulk transfer samples from computer to Digitakt with the new Elektron Transfer software, too.

While not available just yet, Elektron’s powerful Overbridge software suite will become available for Digitakt later this year, and will provide a dedicated VST/AU plugin interface for hardware control and USB audio streaming of internal tracks. Apparently, it will even allow Digitakt to be used as a sound card.

We look forward to bringing you our in-depth review as soon as we’ve had a chance to properly dig in. In the meantime, here's a video from Elektron showing off some of its sampling capabilities.
