Frankfurt 2008: HHB UDP89 (Video)

Universal DVD/CD player

HHB's latest product is the UDP89, a device that will play almost any kind of disc. The manufacturers say that "if it's on a disc, chances are the UDP89 will play it", and the list of compatible formats seem to back up their claim.

The device will play regular audio CDs and DVD videos, but also SACDs, MP3 CDs, and discs encoded with MPEG 4 and AVI videos.

Rear-panel connections include a glut of professional audio and video outputs, including sockets for balanced and unbalanced stereo audio, digital audio, discrete surround channels (enabling direct connection to an active monitoring system), and HDMI, RGB, composite and S-Video. Facilities for video upscaling enable standard-definition material to be displayed at 720p and 1080i, using either the HDMI or component RGB outputs.

On the front panel, there are the expected transport controls along with a relatively large screen and, of course, the sliding disc tray. The device ships with a handheld remote control, and can be rackmounted, taking up just 1U or rack space!
