Joining the likes of Eddie Kramer, Tony Maserati, Jack Joseph Puig and Chris Lord-Alge, four-time Grammy Award winner Manny Marroquin now has his own signature collection of plug-ins from Waves. Announced in January, the Manny Marroquin Signature Series Collection have just been released.
Manny has made his name mixing tracks for Rihanna, Jay-Z and Lana Del Dey, and we looked at his work on Kanye West's 'Stronger' in December 2007.
The collection features six plug-ins, named Reverb, Delay, Distortion, EQ, Triple D and Tone Shaper. While most of these seem like familiar assets, Triple D is less self-explanatory. Apparently Triple D refers to the three processors within the plug-in: DeEsser, DeHarsher and DeBoxer. Combining multiple audio processors into a single plug-in for a particular instrument (vocals in this case) is a common theme in the signature series and this collection is no different.
The Tone Shaper plug-in is essentially a four-band parallel compression plug-in with some width-enhancing features – presumably a Mid-Sid processor of some description. Marroquin says "I’ve found that when a mix is like 80% there, instead of EQ or volume, adding the Tone Shaper makes things jump out, without sacrificing space in the mix."
The Manny Marroquin Signature Series Collection is available now in native formats VST, AU, RTAS and for a discounted price of $299 (normally $500).
