NAMM 2009: AKG K121 Studio

Entry-level studio headphones
Added to AKG’s ‘K’ line of studio headphones at the NAMM show were the K121, entry-level headphones designed for multi-purpose use. They are semi-open, they can operate between 18Hz and 22.5kHz, and have an impedance of 55Ω, so should be a good all-rounder in the studio and control room, though the semi-open design may lead to undesirable spill if the headphones are used at high level near live microphones.

Interestingly, the K121 Studio are styled just like the previous generation of AKG headphones (which comprised models such as the original K240), with black ear pads and gold-coloured driver housing. As with those old models, and many other models in the AKG headphone range, the 121s have a two-piece, self-adjusting headband. They’re available now, with a list price of £77 in the UK.
