Press Release: SSR, the Manchester based music and media training institution, has today confirmed further international expansion with the announcement of a fourth campus set to open in Singapore in 2013. SSR currently has three campuses in Manchester, London and Jakarta (Indonesia) with an SSR Thailand also in development. The announcement of SSR Singapore follows the successful opening of SSR’s Jakarta campus in 2011, with the company meeting a growing demand for high quality, professional music and media training in the Asia/Pacific region.
The announcement follows discussions with numerous Singapore studios, businesses and government agencies, with courses provisionally set to commence in September 2013. SSR Singapore will initially offer Audio Engineering Techniques and Technology, Live Sound and Music Technology courses, to be followed by a full complement of SSR’s music and media production courses the following year. Through SSR’s partnership with the UK’s University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), they also hope to offer UK degree courses in Singapore. The same partnership has seen SSR Jakarta being approved by UCLan to provide academic courses in Indonesia.
SSR started life as Spirit Studios on Tariff St in Manchester in the 1980’s, a small rehearsal and recording complex with bands such as The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and The Smiths all visiting its recording studios at the start of their careers. Since those humble beginnings the company has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the world’s leading providers of technical media training, offering a range of both academic degree and diploma programmes alongside vocational private courses.
SSR’s move into Singapore is positive news for UK business, especially in the current economic climate, and highlights the education and training sector as one of the UK’s most important exports.
