Summer NAMM ’16: Advanced Audio CM48 Tube

Large diaphragm, 3-pattern tube condenser microphone

The CM48 Tube microphone is a large diaphragm three-pattern valve condenser microphone with a vintage design based on the famous Neumann U48 — the three-pattern version of the U47 — and will retail for only $595.

The CM48 Tube features a double-sided true K47-style capsule with a single stage class “A” tube amplifier, and in the tradition of the U47/U48 circuit, the CM48 circuit is also based on a pentode tube wired as a triode. The low-cost but military-quality tube was carefully selected and is a 7pin sub-miniature JAN 5654w. This tube can be easily replaced by the user and is not soldered in like some other lower cost tube microphones. The 5654w tube is matched to a BV8 type transformer having the same ratio as the original U48 transformer.

Advanced Audio say that the CM48 Tube is well suited for recording vocals or instruments in a studio application and can produce a true vintage sound but with brand new high quality components, and at a fraction of the price of an original U48.

Features include cardioid, omni and fig-8 polar patterns plus a -10db pad as well as a 100hz rumble filter. The CM48 Tube comes in a rugged aluminium flight case with a very robust shock-mount and full two year warranty.
