Interview for Source reveals debut details
An interview with Friendly Fires has been published on Source Distribution's web site, detailing the equipment and processing used in making the Mercury Prize nominee's debut album. The interview reveals that in-the-box mixing was used for the majority of tracks on the debut long-player. Friendly Fires' lead singer Ed MacFarlane produced 9 of the 10 tracks in his garage, using a Rode NT1A microphone, a UAD2 Solo Laptop and plug-ins, and a Universal Audio 6176 channel strip as his preamp and compressor. The interface used was an Apogee Ensemble, which was plugged into a MacBook Pro running Apple Logic 8. Ed lists some of his particular favourites as the UAD emulation of the Empirical Labs Fatso, the EMT 140 reverb, and the Dimension D chorus plug-in.

'Jump In The Pool' was produced by Paul Epworth, who revealed the secrets of his mix techniques in SOS January 2009 (viewable on line by SOS eSub subscribers). You can read the full Source Distribution interview with Friendly Fires on the Source web site here, where you can also purchase the gear used by Ed.
