The Music Producers Guild Announces Shortlist For 2013 Awards
Following a record number of nominations for its coveted Awards, the Music Producers Guild today announced the names of those shortlisted in each of the 2013 Music Producers Guild Awards categories. Albums by Florence & The Machine, The Maccabees, Alt-J, Ed Sheeran and Paloma Faith delivered nominations for UK producers Paul Epworth, Bruno Ellingham & Tim Goldsworthy, Charlie Andrew and Jake Gosling, while in the international categories, The Black Keys and Jack White delivered multiple nominations for their producers and engineers.

Pioneering inventor of Alesis ADAT, MIDIverb and MXR effects passes away
Keith Barr, probably best-known to Sound On Sound readers as the founder in 1984 of Alesis, died on August 24th 2010 at the age of 61. Keith was an engineer at heart, though he also loved music, which led to him being a founding partner in MXR, the pioneering guitar pedal company back in 1973.
Professor Fritz Sennheiser, pioneering audio engineer and founder of Sennheiser Electronics, died on May 17th, aged 98. Fritz’s fascination with audio started when, at the age of 11, he built his own radio out of a handful of components, and continued until 1982, when he retired, leaving the company he founded some 37 years earlier under the management of his son, Professor Jörg Sennheiser. Fritz’s contributions to the audio industry have been invaluable, and his innovations live on today in countless products and technologies, from open-back headphones to shotgun microphones.
