It can be hard for a solo performer or duo to find just the right kind of PA for the job: they want clarity and volume, but also portability. The Solo SA220 from acoustic amplification specialists Fishman is designed to be the perfect solution, offering two channels of mic or line input with switchable phantom power.
The SA220 uses a line array of six four-inch, mid-range and bass drivers and a single tweeter; the custom drivers and cabinet are designed to extend bass response beyond what you'd expect to hear from such a system. The tweeter itself can be trimmed by up to 6dB for those who like a darker sound.
There's 220W of clean power available (200W for the bass and mid-range and 20W for the tweeter), yet the whole unit packs away into a compact bag and weighs only 16kg including its stand. It's designed to be extremely simple to set up, taking only around a minute to go from packed to upright, and a little longer to be completely ready to run.
Each channel features a three-band EQ, -10dB pad, four-mode reverb and feedback-protection filter, allowing you to tailor your solo sound to your own needs. The addition of an effects loop for each channel allows you to augment the built-in reverb, effecting vocal and guitars separately, for example, and there's even an auxiliary input available for backing tracks and the like.
Line arrays exhibit wide horizontal sound dispersion and restricted vertical dispersion, which is beneficial especially in smaller venues. For solo artists, the compact SA220 can act as a back line, monitor and PA, allowing the artist to hear exactly what the audience hears.
