I've noticed you've asked the odd question in Studio Design and Acoustics forum.
If this is the case I suggest posting a thread with ongoing pics of your studio development.
It will be both interesting for members and you can ask rrelevant build questions as you progress with the studio construction.

I concur. Good for everyone if you have the time and motivation mate. Building your own shed from scratch is always a good read and appreciated!

Good idea Zukan, thanks :)

It's actually at the 'almost ready to decorate and move my gear in' stage! I just need to finish panelling and flooring the lobby/utility/future iso-booth area (hopefully by the end of today).

I wish I'd taken more pics as I went along, but I'll see what I've got on file. And I'll certainly have the odd Q about acoustic treatment...

This thread makes me jealous. I'm very slowly (very!) but surely getting there. Liquid Mix, new monitors and some acoustic treatment this year I think.

I've sort of stayed out of this thread although my signature strip gives our URL. I'm slightly torn between joining in, in a spirit of cameraderie, and keeping schtumm lest a few people might be more hesitant to share their efforts to date.

But hell, I'm proud of this place! Originally (1979) carved out of an 1838 Baptist chapel by Fairport Convention/Jethro Tull bass player Dave Pegg, and over the last five years-plus seriously improved by me, with a lot of help from forum mod Max, I'm pretty bloody happy with where we are.

Even if someone gave me a place like that I wouldn't know what to do with it! Consequently I'm not envious and I'm still glad I posted a photo of my small schizophrenic setup, but I have to say it does look a lovely working environment.

Cheers,

Chris

Here is my studio. One of three that I built in my complex. The other two are rented out to independent producers. The photos are a year or so old and I have upgraded the gear quite a bit since then.

I feel like crying seeing some of the stuff on this thread - gotta say Ronan's rooms speak to my Indian self as well with that fine carpeting...

Hello guys, long time no speak :) Your places are looking very cool.

DH, in the photo above it looks as though you have an original Logic Control or Mackie Control with an XT unit and then a newer USB Pro Extender added on.

Is this the case? If so does it work well?

I have an original Logic Control and XT unit which are working fine and I'd like to add an extender but of course you can't get the older versions anymore.

Otherwise it means junking a perfectly good Control and XT and buying three new Pro units.

Greetings Dan,

Sounds like a good plan but I'd advise you to do it in reverse order. Some good acoustic treatment and, if you haven't got them already, an appropriate pair of stands optimally placed will yield a better monitoring experience with your current monitors, thus allowing you to continue while you save up for a really good pair as replacements.

I hope this doesn't read like a sermon, apologies if it does, I just thought I'd make the point and only wish I'd heeded this advice when it was proffered to me :headbang:

P.S. @ Driller, I don't know this for certain and I'm sure DH will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they're all the older style Mackie controllers but, perhaps, of differing vintage (if you see what I mean). The newer controllers are more angular if I recall correctly:

*** Image deleted as too big ***

P.P.S. @ DH, I noticed that the first fader on each unit is about half way up and wondered whether that was something you did or a 'quirk' of the Mackies?

I like the use of acoustic treatment in that wall/corner your close to there. Is it effective? This must affect the stereo imaging? But then again thats pretty nearfield monitoring....

On the top right I thought you'd got a collection of DVDs. :D

This place looks space-age with all that treatment - is that a fridge on the bottom right - the big black thing next to the PC tower
